ELYRIA, Ohio – Some renters who live in the Sherwood Forest Apartments in Elyria report being in the middle of a bed bug fight that has left them biting and tense since mid-May.

The tenants, too afraid of being identified, said the housing management responded, but the demolition efforts of the past few weeks have produced little results and a lot of frustration.

“It’s not my lifestyle, I don’t live that way, so it’s very disgusting to live in it and have to live in it for so long,” said one renter. “So I thought it was mosquitos, I thought it was … a spider, I didn’t know what it was. So I just started freaking out, I thought I can’t live in it, that’s gross, that’s gross. Actually, they didn’t even want to spray my apartment at first when they said they would wait another week. I said it has to take care of it now, I said this got out of hand, I thought, ‘I’ll do work bitten.’ “

Sherwood Forest management was quick to respond to our story, saying the bed bug problem started when another tenant brought the bugs into the building and did not report the incident. Management said by the time the bed bugs were discovered, the infestation had already spread to several residential units.

Sherwood Forest management said it has already given two exterminator treatments on the affected building and plans to have a third treatment on July 6th.

Scott Pozna, environmental health supervisor at Lorain County Public Health, said renters shouldn’t panic that bed bugs can’t spread diseases like mosquitoes themselves.

Pozna said timely reporting of bed bugs to housing management and a qualified exterminator was critical

“That’s how often a few bed bugs can become an infestation,” said Pozna, ‘will be back in’ A ‘. Often times, people with bed bugs use pesticides for outdoor use indoors, which can lead to long-term problems. “

Lorain County Public Health said bed bug problems had been decreasing locally in recent years but said it was still a significant problem as extensive information about bed bugs is shared on its website.
