The creepy crawling animals can hide in numerous places, including bed frames, mattresses, clothing, furniture, behind picture frames and loose wallpaper. Sneaky, agile, and bloodthirsty, these tiny pests can be a real nuisance. Their bites can itch and cause painful swelling in some people, confirmed WebMD.

Orkin described the insects as small, wingless, and oval bodies. Adults are brown in color – although they are reddened after a blood supply.

They can grow up to 5 mm in size, which means that they can be seen with the naked human eye (when fully grown).

Nymphs (e.g., baby bed bugs) can be difficult to spot because they’re usually the size of the head of a pin.

Young nymphs can be white or brown (until they feed on human blood, when they too turn a red hue).

Bed bugs can be transported to other people’s homes by taking luggage, suitcases, purses, gym bags, and items stored near sleeping areas.

Another pest control company, Fantastic Pest Control, gave a travel tip on how to prevent re-infestation.

Since the bugs can be found in a variety of accommodations, including hotels, it’s best to check the room you’re staying in for an infestation.

“Instead of unpacking, put your luggage in the bathroom and check the areas that are most likely to be infested (bed linen, headboard, mattress, box spring) before spending the night in the room,” passed the Fantastic Pest Control.
