MOSCOW (UrduPoint News / Sputnik – June 4, 2021) Denmark’s environmental agency has revoked a building permit for the onshore section of the Baltic Pipe project, which will bring natural gas from Norway to Poland, the Danish pipeline operator announced on Thursday.

“The Appellate Body has revoked the permit and sent it back to the Danish Environmental Protection Agency for review,” said Marian Kaagh, Energinet’s Vice President for Projects.

She said the board had canceled the 2019 approval because it did not adequately describe the measures taken to protect dormice, Nordic birch mice and bats during the construction of the 130-mile pipeline through Denmark.

The appraisers also found that the remedial measures to keep the affected breeding and feeding areas at the same level as before the construction work were inadequate.

“It is impossible not to affect the areas in which we work, but we are fully committed to minimizing the impact on people and nature and to maintaining good conditions for protected species during and after the construction of Baltic Pipe ensure, ”said Kaagh.

Energinet, which is developing the project together with the Polish Gaz-System, was surprised by the verdict and is preparing a plan for a temporary shutdown until they get a building permit.
