The Athens-Clarke County Library announced it would be temporarily closed beginning Friday for “precautionary maintenance in the interest of the safety of library patrons and staff,” according to a Thursday news release.
This announcement follows the discovery of bed bugs in a chair on the second floor of the building, according to the press release.
This closure may affect upcoming events, including the Friends of the ACC Library Fall Book Sale, which was scheduled to take place from September 29th to October 1st. According to the publication, book sales will resume after the library reopens.
After an evaluation by library staff on Thursday, it was decided that the library would hire pest control and cleaning services to rid the building of any pests or cleanliness issues, the press release said.
Current information on the situation will be published on the library’s website.
