“We produce high-quality proteins and lipids from the side streams of food production, which has an extremely positive impact on the environment. The new facility allows us to respond to the growing demand for climate-friendly protein in Europe,” said Tuure Parviainen, CEO of Volare, in a press release.
Having used its insect-based protein in dog food and bird food, Volare is now entering the aquafeed ingredients market as well. In 2022, Volare’s circular protein became available to consumers through Alvar Pets dog treats and Leo & Wolf’s seed bars for birds. The company believes it is possible to make the entire food chain more sustainable by changing how animals are fed.
“Although our eating habits are slowly becoming more and more sustainable – but that doesn’t happen overnight. However, we can change the dietary habits of fish and domestic animals much faster and have a direct impact on emissions,” Parviainen continues.
Volare’s industrial plant will be the first of its kind in Finland and one of the few pioneers also operating in Europe. According to the startup, using their unique technology will reduce energy consumption by 30 percent compared to similar solutions.
