FORT WAYNE, Ind. (Fort Waynes NBC) – It’s the perfect time for homeowners to inspect their homes for termites, pests, and insects.
If you don’t verify, these bugs can destroy homes and cost thousands of dollars in damage.
Even in warmer weather, it’s high time they started swarming.
“Actually, they have already started showing up.”
Pest control expert Dale Hodgson says cockroaches, spiders, bugs, and more are returning.
Homeowners need to be on guard as most of the time some do not see or know that these animals are in their homes.
Hodgson says this could increase especially with the strong gusts of wind we’ve had lately.
“Winter has been harsh, things happen to a house, cracks appear, things are torn a little away from the house,” Hodgson said. “All of this should be checked and repaired at any time after a wind, which is a good indicator and.” even all summer long. Whenever the storm is over, you should check the house. ”
Hodgson says if a homeowner knows about termites, pests, or other bug issues, a pest control expert will inspect the home and offer tips on how to fix that problem in the future.
He also says that the pandemic and others are staying home more than before, and then people find out that they may have problems.
“People hear things differently,” said Hodgson. “They may hear things in an attic or room that they don’t normally do. Sometimes when the kids are home and homeschooling they leave snacks around the house and insects come in, find that food source, and use it. ”
Hodgson says he’s suggesting homeowners buy putty knives, copper stuffitts that he says are basically a pad that you put in a hole because it won’t rust.
Nylon scrub brushes are another useful tool as the tips can help cover holes or he says you can use a cartridge gun.
“Just walk around the house if they have large gaps and the sink might be torn off or the gutters are loose,” Hodgson said.
He also says that even a pile of leaves can be problematic because it can hide chipmunks, ants, and mice, among others.
Here are a few more tips:
