Termite season tips and tricks

DOTHAN, Ala. (WTVY) — While many see spring as allergy season, another problem is looming that could cost thousands of dollars.

On average, termite damage in a home can cost you six to eight thousand dollars, and that’s true if you catch it early.

“I mean, it’s usually everyone’s most expensive thing they own that they have to take care of and you just have to be smart and have it inspected so you don’t end up with a $10,000 bill this year when your Insurance doesn’t cover running,” says Kayla Redmon, owner of Redmon Pest Solutions.

Spring weather means termites, and homeowners need to be proactive.

Redmon continues, “The South is a prime location for termites, there are hundreds of colonies on any property, we just need to protect the structure of your home.”

There are several things to look out for.

“Excessive moisture around the foundation of your house, and then if there are a lot of ant beds right around the foundation of your house, that’s a sign that you might have some activity,” Redmon explains. “If you have any softening spots in your window seals or your doors or moldings.”

There are ways to stop termites from entering your home.

Redmon concludes, “Remove any wood-to-floor contact, any excess moisture around the outside of your home, like your air conditioner, and you must make sure you have your crawl space inspected.”

Always call a professional if you find termites eating through your walls.

Many pest control companies like Redmond offer free termite inspections.
