PLANS to transform an empty building in Glasgow “currently occupied by pigeons and rodents” have been rejected.

Applicant Kitchhub asked Glasgow City Council to use the premises at 140 Salkeld Street in the south of the city as a catering kitchen.

The Grade II Listed building, which last housed offices, was originally built in 1933 for the Leyland Motor Company.

Proposed plans stated that the property would be converted into a series of catering kitchens where numerous food franchises will prepare and distribute a range of cooked foods for delivery to restaurants and for home delivery through a series of individual kitchens.

Chefs hoped to be able to run the kitchen between 8am and 11pm, seven days a week, saying: “As this is a commercial area with no residential properties nearby, that shouldn’t be a problem.”

But planning officials rejected the plans for a number of reasons.

They said: “The proposed chimneys and the lack of detail regarding other changes to the building’s external appearance had the potential to detract from the character of the listed building.”
