An Irish food company has been criticized by animal welfare organizations for using glue traps as a pest control method for rodents.

The Kerry Group plc, a global supplier of food and beverage products, requires its suppliers to implement pest control programs. In its requirements for suppliers, the company lists “traps or glue boards” as an option for rodent control. The use of sticky boards to control rodents is illegal in Ireland.

The manual, last updated in May, states: “Pest control equipment must be properly placed to prevent pest infestation and contamination. Pesticide locations must be appropriate to effectively control pest infestation and avoid contamination of the product, packaging material or equipment. “
