Bed bugs are parasites that can easily be picked up on trains, airplanes and hotels and can spread within your own four walls. In general, it takes at least seven weeks for a bed bug to grow from an egg to an adult. If there are many adult beetles, it can be assumed that the infestation has been in place for more than seven weeks. If you smell a certain odor coming from the bedroom, you may be at risk.

The smell of bed bugs is described as musty or sweet.

It is often compared to the smell of coriander.

Other people think they smell sweet like berries and many may disagree on how accurate the smell is because the smell is subjective.

Bed bugs are one of many bed bugs that give off odor, Bedbug told Insider.

The website added, “However, you may disagree with other people about how they smell.

“People compare the smell to all sorts of things like mothballs, rotten and damp wood, and even raspberries.

“The heavier the infestation, the stronger the smell will be. If you live with an infestation, you can get used to the smell.”

How to get rid of bed bugs

Experts recommend washing bedding, bedclothes, curtains, clothing, and similar materials regularly in hot water.

You need to set your dryer setting to the maximum when drying clothes and other materials.

For mattresses, a stiff brush is recommended to remove bed eggs and insects from the seams before vacuuming them.

You will also need to vacuum the bed and its surroundings frequently.

If the patch is cracked, try to repair it immediately so that it doesn’t act as a hiding place for the parasites.
