Residents of a high-rise apartment block have shared their frustration with bugs that they believe are affecting their homes and lives.
Complaints have been reported by residents of Nolan House, Stockton, their landlord, the Thirteen Group.
A local resident who chose to remain anonymous said he faced a number of problems.

He said, “It’s not just rats, but mice too.
“The outside is a shame, you can see the color of the walls when you enter the building.
“Cigarette butts everywhere, nothing seems to be going on.
“” I’ve seen rat holes, I’ve seen mice running up and down. “
Claiming that a man “caught 50 mice in a day” added, “A mouse was in a woman’s bed, she woke up and found her in her bed.
“It’s disgusting, it really is.”
Thirteen say they received a small number of malware reports and started working on the problem.
The 58-year-old resident has lived at Nolan House for three years and says he pays over £ 450 a month in rent, adding that the problem with rats and mice has been ongoing since May.
He said other problems were graffiti, dirty walls, weeds around the building and drug trafficking.

He also alleged that there was a lot of antisocial behavior in the area that caused some residents to be concerned for their safety.
The resident’s bike was stolen a few months ago, and although he reported it to the Thirteen Group and Cleveland Police, he said nothing was done about it.
He lives with a variety of health problems and said that he doesn’t need that extra stress in his life.
Other residents of the building are also ill, including several people with Alzheimer’s disease and terminal diseases.

He said residents had filed three complaints with Thirteen Group in the past two months.
He said, “All they say is that everything is in the works.
“But we don’t need a process, it’s useless, we want action.”
One of his neighbors kept a record of what went wrong in the building and photos of three mice caught in traps were made available to Teesside Live.

He is concerned not only with his own health and safety, but also with his flatmates and their families.
He regularly visits his parents, who live in Roseworth, to give him an escape from his home, but said Nolan House is not a place for the elderly, like many of his neighbors, to live.
Another resident who has lived in the building for about seven years said of the rodent problem: “One caught himself when it started.
“When the company came out, they caught another 10.
“Many saw them, then many heard the scratching on the skirting boards.
“A guy on the 15th floor collects the names of those who heard them, and he has 30 to 40 people.
“It’s been like this for ages, there are a lot of old people in here and they’re scared of them.”
He believed the problem had persisted for the past six months, but said it was difficult to track down the Thirteen Group to report the problem.
“They’re not doing enough, they set up traps, and if they haven’t caught it in 10 days, that’s all, they’re done.
“There are voids in all the walls and they can then drop things to kill the rats and mice.

Another resident, 63 years old, has lived at Nolan House for almost 15 years and recently caught several mice in her apartment.
She said, “It will take at least six / seven months, if not longer.
“I caught them, I had three mice and a rat in my apartment on the 10th floor.
“Floor 10 caught 30, we have to do something about it.”
She said someone was outside putting poison boxes but the vermin did not touch it and the problem persists.
“They’re still running, a lot of people have complained.
“They have placed poison in some apartments, but they are multiplying like wildfire.
“It was terrible, I don’t dare go into the kitchen to cook something, I set eight traps.
“The building is overrun with mice and rats.” She said.
A resident who has lived in the building for nine years has jointly drawn up a list of complaints ranging from rodents to the condition of the building to anti-social behavior.

He said, “All of these people are getting older, half of them cannot use the phone, or they are deaf or use wheelchairs.
“I collect everything and call it, and they’re trying to fob me off right now, but I’m not fobbed off.”
He is over 50 years old and has been running the neighborhood watch for nine years.
“They say about the rats and mice that they basically can’t afford it.
Kay Glew, Director of Operations at Thirteen, said, “The safety and wellbeing of our customers is an absolute priority for us.
“We have received a small number of pest reports in the Nolan House area and have already started working with our pest control company to address the problem.
“As an added precaution, our repair team is also working to block potential outdoor entry points to prevent vermin from entering the building.
“We also remind our customers of some simple ways to prevent pests from recurring, such as help us keep the problem from recurring.
“We take all reports of anti-social behavior very seriously and recommend that our customers always report this to us so that we can work on it with partner agencies.
“Customers are reminded that they can also contact the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
“We are confident that everything possible will be done to resolve the reported issues and will keep our customers informed of any work in progress.”
