An investigation was opened by a local police station that found rats to be behind the disappearance of large numbers of confiscated boxes of illegal alcohol from a vault. A senior police officer said over 1,400 cartons of alcohol had disappeared at the Kotwali Dehat Police Station and a case was recorded against the station house officer Indreshpal Singh and employee Rishal Singh.

However, a general diary at the police station mentions that 239 boxes were damaged by rats which, according to the chief police officer, appears fishy and unacceptable. Etah Udai Police Superintendent Shankar Singh confirmed the development on Sunday and said an investigation is ongoing. However, he refused to elaborate on it.

A senior district police officer told PTI, “A week ago it was found that the Kotwali Dehat Police Station was missing around 1,450 boxes of confiscated illegal alcohol.” When asked if some boxes were damaged by rats, the policeman said, ” The general police diary mentions that 239 boxes were damaged by rodents. However, this is unacceptable and it seems that the matter is lazy. It was probably done to cover up the bug. “

One case was recorded against SHO Indreshpal Singh and employee Rishal Singh. Neither of them appeared on her behalf to provide an explanation for the incident, despite a subpoena, he said. Meanwhile, Vikas Kumar, an Aligarh police officer investigating the case, said, “Efforts are being made to determine where the seized alcohol has gone.”
