Spectrum of opinion at a public meeting

A range of views were expressed by Douglas residents who attended a packed public meeting to discuss recent changes to waste collection.

An increase in rodent activity and the Douglas Council’s “arrogant” attitude were among the issues raised by those unhappy with the new system

Residents of the island’s capital last night put questions to councilors Claire Wells and Falk Horning about the Manx Legion’s move from weekly to fortnightly collections.

The meeting was convened after some problems with full bins emerged after the change went into effect in September.

A show of hands vote at the end of the meeting showed that the majority of those attending the event were in favor of a return to weekly collections, but Councilor Wells insists this will not be considered.
