You can’t go many days without seeing some sort of city ranking. Charlotte did another one. However, one cannot be proud of this. Charlotte made another list of top cities, this time for bed bugs. Gross. Charlotte is home to many bed bugs, according to pest control company Orkin. Charlotte was ranked 11th on the list of cities with the most bed bugs. We jumped 9 places compared to last year. Not good

It turns out that these tiny hitchhiking pests are very fond of our city, as shown by the latest numbers from Orkin of Atlanta, a company that specializes in pest control services. In fact, according to Orkin, Charlotte was ranked 11th on the 2021 list – nine places more than last year. Our neighbors in Raleigh came in 17th (that’s 3 places down from last year) and Greensboro was 34. Ironically, the only people I know who had a problem with bed bugs were in Raleigh.

The ranking is based on the number of bed bug treatments that Orkin received from 1. So the numbers could be skewed depending on whether some cities have higher prevalence of other pest control companies.

If the numbers are from 2019-2020, why is it being released in June 2021? Next week is Bed Bug Awareness Week. Who knew this was a thing? It runs from June 6th to June 12th. The campaign aims to help people spot a bed bug infestation and know what to do when they win.

Here is the list of the top 10 cities for bed bug infestation:
